Alex grew up in the Bay area of Oakland. He and his family had childhood experiences with his innate intuitive gifts as well as walking and talking in his sleep.
"We didn't even have the word psychic when I was a kid. Though it existed, I didn't know anyone who used it. I was a good guesser, could tell what people were thinking and could finish their sentences for them which would annoy my father when I did it! I also used to see and talk to spirits, but didn't talk about it."
Though Alex was unaware of it in his childhood, he later discovered his mother was highly intuitive and naturally psychic.
From the time he was a child, he studied music in grade school where he learned to play the cello.
He continued his studies in high school becoming a cellist and professional classical bass player. The technique and interpretation of music utilized his intellect as well as his emotional and artistic senses. He used to travel a great deal as a professional musician. He remembers a trumpeter with whom he once shared a room telling him, "I'll never room with you again. You talk in your sleep all night long – and what’s more, you give sermons!"
Once Alex moved to New York City to study music, he encountered a friend who took him to his first spiritual class. It was given by Agatha Wojiechowsky, a medium psychic artist and healer who became his first teacher.
When Alex was introduced to Agatha, she looked him straight in the eye and said, "You are a medium!"
Alex began to wonder if he had any real psychic abilities. So, he found his way to the American Society for Psychical Research which was only a few blocks from where he lived. When the person in charge asked Alex why he came to see them, he replied, "I want to find out whether I'm psychic or psychotic."
The director said to him, "Go through our tests to discover whether you have some real psychic abilities." After the results of his first tests, Alex was invited to become a part of their regular experiments and studies.
He continued working with the ASPR until they discovered he had certain extraordinary abilities which interested the United States government. He wasn't interested in working with them telling the director, "There are two groups I won't work with: the Mafia and the US Government." At this point, Alex realized he wanted only to use his psychic gifts for spiritual work.
Alex continued attending Agatha's classes twice a week where she developed and trained his gift as a medium. She then sent him to Clifford Bias, a famous American psychic who's Spiritualist Church services and channeling Alex attended regularly.
Agatha then wanted him to take over her classes for her which he did for awhile until he realized there was a conflict with his professional music career.
At that point, he said to her, "I can't do both."
Knowing that his music career was no longer satisfying to him, she asked Alex , "What would it take to make you decide to do only the spiritual work?"
He replied, "If I could make the modest amount I make in music doing spiritual work for three months, I would decide to give up music."
Within three months time, Alex had started giving his own spiritual classes as a medium where he lived. He also started seeing private clients for readings.
At this point, his teacher Clifford Bias said to him,
"In order to become a legitimate professional in your work, you need to become an ordained Spiritualist Minister." After four years of study for the ministry, he was ordained in 1976.
Having attracted numerous international clients, Alex was then invited by the United Nations Parapsychology Group to channel for them. During that time, he was invited to channel for the General Assembly of the UN.
At this time, a number of invitations to travel abroad began an international phase in Alex's career. He traveled many times professionally to Europe, Scandinavia and South America. So much so, he was out of the country more than he was at home!
After working internationally for over 50 years, Alex realized he longed to be back in his adopted hometown of New York City where he passed away on June 7, 2022

Alex Murray was an internationally known clairvoyant, trance channel, lecturer and teacher. He had been consulted by many clients over the years around the world.
Alex’s work focused on channeling for groups, clairvoyant consultations and teaching various workshops.
During channeling, he would go into a trance state and allow highly evolved spiritual beings to speak through him as an instrument. People could then directly interact with them.

"We have to bring some of these metaphysical truths into physical manifestation or reality," he said. "That is basically what magic means. In order to learn and practice magic, one needs to make an investment of time and energy. It's a learned ability that can become an art."
Alex’s clients often sought personal and career advice for self-fulfillment. He received psychic impressions about each person. Sometimes messages were relayed from personal spirit guides or loved ones.
"If I'm aware of a problem, I inevitably see a means to solve it," he added, "Predictions which come true are good advice taken or warnings ignored. It's not that life gets better...one gets better at it. I have one cardinal rule: I never make up people’s minds for them."
"The future is not absolute. What you do changes it. We live in a very large NOW. The past and the future are at its edges. All the things we need to know and experience as well as the things we want, exist somewhere in that NOW. We are able to contact the spirit world because spirits never leave the NOW;
They have gone into another part of it, as we all shall when we depart this planet."
When a client wants to contact a deceased relative or friend, Alex said, "We have to call out to them wherever they are in the Universe."
He saw himself as a psychic telephone.
